In the late 1980s, street skating was rapidly gaining popularity. At the forefront of this trend was Steve Caballero, a top contender on the "Street-Style" circuit who not only excelled at vert skating but also captured the attention of Powell-Peralta, the renowned skateboard company.

Recognizing Caballero's prowess and the growing demand for street-specific skateboards, Powell-Peralta decided to introduce an additional Cab deck model designed specifically for street skating. The task of creating a new graphic for this deck was entrusted to artist V.C. Johnson, who crafted a striking design featuring a dragon graphic with a bats and bones background.

To further cement the deck's association with Caballero, his name was incorporated into the design in the shape of a bat, a nod to his affinity for the iconic superhero Batman. The Powell-Peralta logo was also given a distinctive touch, with the use of the Animal Chin font, reflecting the zeitgeist of the era.

The Cab deck's specifications were carefully considered to cater to the needs of street skaters. The deck width was set at 9.625 inches, with a length of 29.75 inches, providing ample stability and control. The wheelbase measured 15.125 inches, and the deck nose and tail were 3.5 inches and 6.88 inches, respectively, allowing for maneuverability and versatility on the streets.

The deck was designed with a Long 4 - 2.5" Old School Truck Hole Pattern, a shape that was well-suited for the demands of street skating. The concave profile, known as Shape 157 / Concave SP3, offered the optimal combination of responsiveness and stability, ensuring a seamless riding experience.

It's worth noting that the Cab deck was released as a deck-only product, without the inclusion of griptape. This allowed skaters to customize their setup and choose the griptape that best suited their preferences and skating style.

The introduction of the Cab deck by Powell-Peralta in 1987 marked a significant moment in the evolution of street skating. It not only showcased the brand's commitment to innovation but also highlighted the growing influence of skaters like Steve Caballero, who were at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of the sport.
